THE BENEFITS OF CONSUMING MATCHA

Matcha tea has made a resurgence in popularity in recent times, and while it has done so with good reason, the method of roasting and pulverizing green tea into a powder has been around since the Song Dynasty (10th – 13th Century).

Originating in Japan and translating to mean “powdered tea”, matcha tea is the most potent green tea in the world, as the entire leaf is ingested.

This vibrant green powder is unique in many ways, starting with how it’s grown. Matcha undergoes a unique shade growing process, which stimulates the production of nutrients in the tea leaves and maximizes the therapeutic benefits. This means that Matcha is rich in chlorophyll, has a huge range of vitamins and minerals and contains up to 10 times the anti-oxidants of traditional green tea when consumed. Once the leaves are harvested and dried, they are then crushed into a powder.

Drinking matcha is beneficial from not only a physical health perspective, but also for mental health, as it is believed to stimulate presence of mind, mental alertness, and helps to foster a calm, meditative state simultaneously.

HOW TO BREW MATCHA TEA

You’lll need a few accessories: matcha powder, a matcha bowl and a bamboo whisk and scoop.

Gently sift 1–2 grams (½–1 tsp) of matcha into a bowl. Add 40–100ml of hot water to the bowl at approximately 70ºc–80ºc. Whisk matcha and water together in a steady back and forward motion. Gently pop any large bubbles with your whisk, and enjoy.
